Meet the Owners

Adam and Jessica Sweet are the owners of Sweet Beginnings Early Learning Center.  The Sweets have a passion for and strive to provide young families with the highest quality, licensed childcare and preschool in the Kansas City Northland.  They have developed a unique program offering first, a safe environment for all students. Second, a solid infant, toddler and preschool curriculum combining many approaches to best reach all types of learners. And lastly, enrichment classes that give all students exposure to other languages, the arts, science, technology, library and physical education.

Jessica manages the day-to-day operations of the center, making decisions and creating an environment for young children to thrive, achieving their first milestones and building a solid foundation to become lifelong learners.  Adam manages all financials of the business, ensuring Sweet Beginnings continually provides high quality childcare, preschool education, competitive salaries and benefits to our 20+ full time employees, all while staying compliant with Federal, State and Local entities.

Adam and Jessica are a strong couple who have supported each other firmly in business and in their personal life.  They balance each other making anything they choose to do a success through hard work towards the goals they set together.  They always put family first, raising their 3 children and providing them unique opportunities in education, sports and activities that interest them and continue building their educational foundation to help them achieve success now and into their adult lives.

Adam earned his BS in Accounting at The University of Missouri, Kansas City in May 2001.  He worked in the private accounting field until 2012 when he joined the Sweet Beginnings team full time.  Adam has extensive experience in personal and business tax accounting, budgeting and all aspects of financial advising.  He founded the Sweet Investment Group, LLC in 2006 and continues actively as the Principal of this group.

Jessica completed her BA in Communication Studies at The University of Missouri, Kansas City in May 2000.  She had a constant yearning to work with children and followed that desire a year later after being selected as one of 25 out of over 2,500 applicants to participate in the Kauffman Foundation Teaching Fellows program, beginning her teaching that fall in KCMO Public Schools and starting her MA in Curriculum & Instruction at UMKC.  Jessica went on to teach in the public school setting through May, 2007 when she and Adam welcomed their second child to the family.  Later that year she began a full time preschool teaching position at a small privately owned childcare and preschool, allowing her the opportunity to bring her own children to work with her each day while still teaching and working closely with other young families.  After moving into the school director position the following August she worked hard to build the program and make improvements for all of the students, always keeping her own children at the forefront of her mind and tailoring programs specific to their own interests.  In October, 2009 Jessica and Adam officially purchased the school she had been working for and opened Sweet Beginnings Early Learning Center on November 2, 2009.

Jessica Sweet

Owner/Director

Heather Looney

Office Assistant
Heather is excited to work at Sweet Beginnings. She is newly married, her Husband’s name is Devan. They are currently expecting a little girl in August 2019. She is also a dog mom of two. Heather has only lived in the Kansas City area for a little over a year, she grew up in Wheatland, MO. She enjoys riding horses, hiking, spending time with her niece and nephews, and taking care of her farm with her husband.

Jolyn Colvin

Cook

Jolyn has been with Sweet Beginnings for 3 years. She has worked with all ages at our center and recently has taken on the cook position for our kiddos! She has 3 amazing sons, one of which attends Sweet Beginnings in our Pre-K class. In her free time, Jolyn enjoys watching the Chiefs play, camping, and spending time with her family. She is very happy to have your little ones with us!

Bonnie Kloppe

Bonnie has been at Sweet Beginnings for about 6 years and works with the littlest of the littles. What she loves most about working with infants is helping them reach their important milestones like holding their head up, rolling over, and sitting up. She is so thankful she can be a part of their lives, offering support to parents and helping new parents navigate parenthood. She has three children of her own and multiple grandchildren, whom she adores. She has taken many courses in child development as well as various continuous education courses. It’s important to her that her families know she will work tirelessly to do what is best for their child(ren).

Grasshoppers Lead Teacher

Miss Tammy is still fairly new to the Kansas City area. She was raised at the Lake of the Ozarks and raised her family outside of Tipton, Missouri, where she homeschooled for 10 years. Her family is still growing with 6 grandchildren so far! Working with infants is a dream come true! It brings so much joy to love these little ones each day. She is looking forward to a long future here at Sweet Beginnings!

Colleen Paige

Nightcrawlers Lead Teacher
Colleen has been with Sweet Beginnings for 2 years. She has 3 beautiful, bright children. Her hobbies include reading, art, and baking. She has over 10 years of experience working with children, and has worked with all ages here at Sweet Beginnings. She loves teaching young children and is excited to be a part of this awesome team!

Sarah Patton

Bumblebees Lead Teacher
Sarah is a Kansas City native, born and raised in the Parkville area. She has always been interested in child care with childhood dreams of becoming a teacher. Her junior and senior year of high school she took early childhood education classes with experience in many early childhood education settings through Penn Valley Community College. This year, she will be celebrating 5 years with a wonderful family that she nannies for. Additionally, she’s a proud aunt to 9 blood nieces and nephews as well as several amazing littles that refer to her as “Aunt Sarah”. Currently, she lives in Liberty, Missouri with her older brother and often 3 of my nieces and nephews. She enjoys reading self-improvement books, watching 90s movies, journaling, hitting the gym (when work isn’t enough workout 🙂 and spending time with her family. She looks forward to getting to know all of you and is excited for the opportunity to be a part of your child’s village!

Chelsea Talbot

Miss Chelsea has worked with children of all ages for 14 years. Six of those years was running an in-home daycare. Miss Chelsea has always enjoyed being around children since her teen years. That’s when she knew she wanted to teach and learn from children. Knowing that you can possibly change the life of a little one is amazing, knowing that a little one can change your life is even better. There is nothing better than to hear the innocent laugh of a child, it’s music to my ears. Chelsea has been married 6 years, together 14. Mother of 3, two daughters 13, 7 and a son 18 months old. Her hobbies are watching her daughters dance at their competitions, crafting of any sorts and spending time with her family.

Deon Mason

Deon is currently working on completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminology. She just recently got engaged to her fiancé, Andrew last December and is currently planning their wedding for June of 2019. They have 2 cats named Steele and Pebbles that keep them on their toes at home. Before working at Sweet Beginnings, she worked at another center in Overland Park, KS. Her favorite part about working with children is getting to help and watch them accomplish so many new tasks on a daily basis. She has worked with children of all ages in child care and couldn’t be happier to continue her passion at Sweet Beginnings.

Crystal is a mother of three beautiful children and a wife to an awesome husband of three years. Before joining Sweet Beginnings she had a small, in-home daycare of her own for two years. She joined Sweet Beginnings a year and a half ago and instantly felt at home. She absolutely loves building a personal connection with each of the children and their families. She loves teaching them new experiences that they will continue to carry with them forever. She loves being the start of their educational careers and has plans to soon further her own. Working with children has been a life-long dream that she finds to be truly rewarding. She sincerely enjoys every bit of it! Dragonflies Lead Teacher

Kelly was previously a teacher in the Walking Sticks classroom here at Sweet Beginnings. She is so excited to be here with all of these children. She is 24 years old, born and raised in Kansas City. She’s a huge sports fan, especially college basketball! In her spare time, she loves to hang out with her niece and nephews and spend time with friends and family.

Morgan Taylor

Fireflies Co-Lead Teacher
Morgan is very excited to be the PreK teacher! She has worked with children from 3 weeks to 12 years of age for the last 7 years. She’s currently working towards her CDA at Penn Valley. She loves working with children because taking part in their growth and helping them develop life-long skills is an absolute joy for her. She has been married since 2015, and she and her husband Bryan just recently bought their first house. They couldn’t be more excited! Although they don’t have any children yet, they do have two dogs (Gemma and Kiya) who are like their children. She’s so glad to have the opportunity to work for a great company. Sweet Beginnings has welcomed her with open arms and will do the same for you and your family.

Courtney Allen

Fireflies Co-Lead Teacher
Courtney has worked with children of all ages since 2002 off and on and for the last 6 years with ages 2-5. She loves working with kids and watching them grow and shine! For the last 5 years she has worked with special needs children as well as typical needs children and those years have taught her a great deal! Kids are truly a passion of hers and she considers herself blessed to be a part of your child’s life and a part of the Sweet Beginnings family. She has been married for 3 years and has two children, ages 12 (7th Grade) and 4. Her 4-year-old attends Sweet Beginnings and is in the Fireflies classroom.
