Sweet Family

Meet the Owners

Adam and Jessica Sweet are the owners of Sweet Beginnings Early Learning Center.  The Sweets have a passion for and strive to provide young families with the highest quality, licensed childcare and preschool in the Kansas City Northland.  They have developed a unique program offering first, a safe environment for all students. Second, a solid infant, toddler and preschool curriculum combining many approaches to best reach all types of learners. And lastly, enrichment classes that give all students exposure to other languages, the arts, science, technology, library and physical education.

Jessica manages the day-to-day operations of the center, making decisions and creating an environment for young children to thrive, achieving their first milestones and building a solid foundation to become lifelong learners.  Adam manages all financials of the business, ensuring Sweet Beginnings continually provides high quality childcare, preschool education, competitive salaries and benefits to our 20+ full time employees, all while staying compliant with Federal, State and Local entities.

Adam and Jessica are a strong couple who have supported each other firmly in business and in their personal life.  They balance each other making anything they choose to do a success through hard work towards the goals they set together.  They always put family first, raising their 3 children and providing them unique opportunities in education, sports and activities that interest them and continue building their educational foundation to help them achieve success now and into their adult lives.

Adam earned his BS in Accounting at The University of Missouri, Kansas City in May 2001.  He worked in the private accounting field until 2012 when he joined the Sweet Beginnings team full time.  Adam has extensive experience in personal and business tax accounting, budgeting and all aspects of financial advising.  He founded the Sweet Investment Group, LLC in 2006 and continues actively as the Principal of this group.

Jessica completed her BA in Communication Studies at The University of Missouri, Kansas City in May 2000.  She had a constant yearning to work with children and followed that desire a year later after being selected as one of 25 out of over 2,500 applicants to participate in the Kauffman Foundation Teaching Fellows program, beginning her teaching that fall in KCMO Public Schools and starting her MA in Curriculum & Instruction at UMKC.  Jessica went on to teach in the public school setting through May, 2007 when she and Adam welcomed their second child to the family.  Later that year she began a full time preschool teaching position at a small privately owned childcare and preschool, allowing her the opportunity to bring her own children to work with her each day while still teaching and working closely with other young families.  After moving into the school director position the following August she worked hard to build the program and make improvements for all of the students, always keeping her own children at the forefront of her mind and tailoring programs specific to their own interests.  In October, 2009 Jessica and Adam officially purchased the school she had been working for and opened Sweet Beginnings Early Learning Center on November 2, 2009.

Ashley is one of the toddler teachers who loves working with children because of the great joy and happiness it brings to her life. Watching them learn and grow under her care is on of the best things in the world, along with the smiles of love you get from them. She has been working with children her entire life. Her aunt put me through a 12-week baby-sitting course when she was only ten, and she watched her cousins and family friends’ children on the weekends from the age of twelve. At 16, she helped her mother run an in-home daycare while serving as a nanny for multiple children and has worked in childcare centers for over 7 years as a lead teacher. Education is important to her, and she has completed over 200 hours in everything from art, music, health, lesson planning, to stress & trauma.
